Bo Staff
or Kun - This is the first weapon that we start our students
with. Training with this weapon begins around 6th Kyu and continues
through advanced black belt levels. We practice 9 Bo kata. Kise
Bo Shodan - Yondan, Tsuken Bo, Nagamine No Bo Sho, Tokumine No
Kun, Sakugawa No Kun and Kubo. |

Sai - The
Sai is typically the second weapon we train with. The Sai was
originally a trident in old times, however it is widely seen through
all of asia. We practice 5 Sai kata. Kise Sai Sho and Ni, Sai
Jitsu, Soken Sai and Aragaki No Sai.. |

Kama or Gama
- This weapon is one of our black belt weapons. We only practice
3 kata for this weapon, Kise Kama Sho and Ni and Kuda Kama Sho.
While we might not have many kata for this weapon we do train
extensively on methodology for use of the Kama. |

Kuwa or Guwa
- Pronounced Goo-wa, this weapon is an Okinawan style garden hoe.
Typically the handle on this weapon is between 4 to 5 foot long
and the head is a short sided blade. We only practice one Kuwa
kata which comes from the Irei family. |

Tonfa, Tunkwa, Tunfa,
Gonfa - This weapon has many names, but the kanji usually
associated with it means spinning sticks. Our Tonfa katas include
KIse Tonfa Sho, Kuda Tonfa, Akamine No Tonfa and Hama Higa No
Tonfa. |

Gusan - The
Gusan is a short staff. While a normal bo staff is between 5 to
6 foot in length, the Gusan is between 3 to 4 foot and the ends
of the Gusan are flaired out. The Gusan kata that we practice
is Aragaki No Gusan. |

Nunchaku
- There is no provable history of what this weapon originally
was used for. It has been said that it was everything from a fail
for rice to a horse bridal. While the history of the weapon is
uncertain, or kata for this weapon is very certain. We practice
Kise No Nunchaku. |

Eku - This
weapon is an Okinawan style boat oar. Fishing has always been
a major part of the Okinawan culture, and this weapon comes from
the fishing boats of old. It is still seen in Dragon boat races
in Okinawa. One of our Eku Kata comes from the Irei Family the
other kata comes from Shinkichi Kuniyoshi. |

Nunti Bo
- A Nunti is a type of Sai which is attached to the end of a staff.
It is believed that this was originally used as a fishing spear.
Our Nunti Bo kata comes from the Aragaki family of Ginowan. It's
a great kata which shows the versatlity of this dynamic weapon. |

Tekko - The
Tekko originally were used as the stirrups on horse saddles. They
have been used in more modern times as a form of "brass knucles".
We have two Tekko Kata called Miyazato No Tekko and Takemyoshi
No Tekko. |

Nitan Bo
- Nitan Bo means "two short sticks" and they are generally
used in pairs. They have great fighting applications and have
ben used throughout history in many Asian societies. Our Nitan
Bo kata is from Grand Master Yuichi Kuda (1928-1999) and is called
Kuda No Nitan Bo. It is a very flowing yet powerful kata which
allows you to use all the versatility of this weapon. |

Tinbe and Rochin
- The Tinbe and Rochin are weapons from the old Kingdom of Okinawa.
The turtle shell itself comes from the Loggerhead turtle. Our
kata comes from the great weapon Master Shinkichi Kuniyoshi from
the Nago area of Okinawa. |
